Knoxville Wedding Photographers
Daniel + Martha Howell. Who are we?

We're a husband and wife team who loves to photograph the emotions of weddings, make friends with our clients, and have fun working.

We could live at Starbucks, although Daniel prefers black coffee and Martha likes "girly" drinks like Frappuccinos. We both love listening to the musical genius that is Harry Connick Jr. Our favorite vacation spot is the Big Easy - every time we leave, we know what it means to miss New Orleans. We call Sweetwater home and are happy to be here; it reminds us of where we grew up. Our little family consists of us and two adorable dogs.

Enjoy our blog and checking out our newest work and learning about us in the meantime!

Caleb and Marie's E-Session

It has been a while since I posted, but a lot has gone on since then! I'm going to try to catch up on what I've missed, starting with Caleb and Marie's Engagement Session.

When I initially met with Caleb and Marie, they flattered me. I had never had someone pay me quite so many compliments about my work in such a short period of time! I quickly realized that they would be wonderful clients and did everything I could to help them make up their minds to choose me!

Caleb and Marie's session actually consisted of two different parts. We met once at a time close to sunset to do some daylight pictures and then take advantage of the Christmas lights along the river in Clarksville.

That session yielded some wonderful images, but was cut short by the weather. It started sleeting in the middle of the session! We decided to meet again to take some more pictures a few days later.

The second session was in downtown Clarksville. There were many opportunities along the way, but all along Caleb had a particular wall on the side of one of the historic buildings that he wanted a picture with. So, I obliged him.

Caleb and Marie were wonderful! I look forward to their wedding in May.

All About E-Sessions

(First of all, let me clarify that an e-session simply means an engagement session.)

Featured Couple: Casey & Paul, Nashville, TN

Location: Downtown Nashville

FAQ About E-Sessions

What do I do with my engagement pictures?

Casey & Paul chose to have enlargements of their e-session images at their reception. With an e-session that focuses on creating art, these images are great for framing and placing in your new home together. You could also use them on your save-the-date cards or even the invitations themselves.

When should we have our e-session?

Normally, I recommend doing an engagement session at least two months prior to your wedding date, since this allows time for ordering plenty of enlargements for your wedding!

Where should we have our e-session?

Many photographers choose to do e-sessions in their studio. This choice is great for traditional standard images. However, we love to go on location with our couples. We urge them to choose places that represent who they are. For example, we’ve had some choose to go the river, farms, downtown settings, playgrounds, and more.

The bottom line is - choose locations where you will be comfortable. And think outside of the box. While you may be used to seeing traditional poses in front of a black background, imagine how wonderful your image would be if your were sitting on top of a bail of hay or dangling your feet into a stream. Anything is possible!

Why have an E-Session?
An e-session is vital for both the photographer and the clients to get to know each other. Simply put, it’s much easier for the photographer to work with the clients on their wedding day if they’ve had an opportunity to shoot a session with them prior. And it’s a lot easier for the clients to be comfortable with the photographer if they’ve had a chance to work with them as well.

Remember that your wedding photography is an investment, and an e-session is not only a great way to get great images of you and your soon-to-be spouse, but also to ensure that your time with your photographer on your wedding day goes as smooth as possible!

Jessica and Jason E-Session

Jessica and Jason were great! I met Jessica in a class that I was taking at APSU. I told her about what I do, and she was instantly interested. The problem was, we just needed to get Jason on board. So, I told her about the special I was running - engagement sessions sans the sitting fee. I think that helped get Jason on board.

We met at Dunbar Cave for the shoot. I tried not to scare Jason off at first, but I then realized that he was game for anything... as long as Jessica wanted it! These are a few that came out of that session.

Overall this couple was great! I hope I can get them on board for the wedding ;-)

Danny and Carla's E-Session

Although it's taking me a while to get their pictures finished, I wanted to go ahead and post a few of Danny and Carla's pics. We met for their session at the Fairgrounds park in Clarksville on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We quickly realized that there were way too many people there to be able to do what we wanted to do. So, we moved!

We ended up going to Dunbar Cave and spending a couple hours there. I asked the usual questions, "How affectionate do you like to be" and "what do you want your pictures to be like". About the only response I got was that they like to have fun. So we had fun! These are just a few of the 46 or so images that will comprise their Engagement Session. I look forward to their wedding in December.

Casey & Paul's E-Session

Casey and Paul are the exact type of client we're looking for - they are willing to try new things and really appreciate the art in photography. For that reason, we decided to do their e-session in downtown Nashville. We had so much fun!

All of the shots were at night, so they had to be very still and pose for shutter speeds of up to 6 seconds! We went to the Pedestrian bridge, played in fog, danced with Elvis and more. With clients who are willing to experiment, take time, and laugh with us, we're able to capture beautiful images. We are really looking forward to their wedding this Sunday at Montgomery Bell State Park.
